FIVE THINGS FOR YOUR WEEK...
STREAMING
Dr Death StarzPlay, from Sunday
If you’re about to have surgery, it might be better to watch this eight-part miniseries after you’ve been in hospital rather than before. It tells the chilling real-life tale of Christopher Duntsch, who is currently serving a life sentence in a Texas jail, and is based on the popular podcast of the same name. Joshua Jackson takes the lead role, depicting Duntsch as a sinister neurosurgeon with a severe case of narcissism. As his psychopathic tendencies increase, he’s seen deliberately botching operations on a number of trusting patients, leaving some of them maimed while killing others. The impressive supporting cast includes Grace Gummer, Christian Slater, Alec Baldwin and Kelsey Grammer.
FAMILY FUN
Beat the Chasers ITV & STV, 8.30pm, Saturday
Bradley Walsh, right, asks the questions, as Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan, Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty, Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace, Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett and Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis take on more brave quizzers. For this new fourth series, those brainboxes who manage to answer all five multiplechoice cash-builder questions correctly will receive a ‘super offer’ to take on the six Chasers.
SHOWBIZ
Paul O’Grady’s Saturday Night Line Up ITV & STV, 9.35pm, Saturday
After making a number of award-winning documentaries for ITV, the network has finally convinced Paul O’Grady to return to lightentertainment. Each week, Paul will be joined by four guests from the worlds of TV, film, sport and music and present them with a series of interesting questions, scenarios and dilemmas. Then, the stars are asked to rank themselves, in order of best to worst or most to least, in response. Trying to second guess the public’s opinion this week are Jack Dee, Joanna Page, Rob Rinder and Mica Paris.
DRAMA
Endeavour ITV & STV, 8pm, Sunday
Shaun Evans has a decent role in BBC One’s Vigil, which will clash with the return of his most famous alter ego – DS Endeavour Morse. Thank goodness for catch-up services and personal recorders, eh? It’s now 1971 and our hero isn’t in good shape; he’s still reeling from what happened to his lover Violetta, causing him to find solace in drink. That in turn forces him to call in sick on a regular basis, and when he does turn up for work, he’s dishevelled and smells of booze. Thursday tries to be sympathetic, but the team have tricky crimes to deal with and it’s a case of all hands on deck.
EVENT PREVIEW
RHS Chelsea Flower Show BBC1, 6pm, Sunday
This year’s event doesn’t open to the public for another nine days, but viewers of this programme can get a sneak preview of what to expect. It’s the first time the horticultural showcase has taken place in September, and those involved claim they’re looking forward to a more autumnal feel to the displays. Whether it will return to its usual slot in May remains to be seen.
