Kick-Ass star Chloe Grace Moritz (pictured) is alive and kicking in another gloriously bonkers not-to-be-takenseriously mash up of WW2 action movie and scary creatures hokum
Some will hate it, but fans of sci-fi and nail-biting action will love Chloe’s bravado as she takes on the chauvinist crew on a WW2 mission. The setting’s 1943 and Moritz plays Captain Maude Garrett who carries a revolver and a mysterious bag aboard an American B17 bomber called (appropriately perhaps) The Fool’s Errand. She causes a stir in a period when planes often had voluptuous pin-ups painted on the side, and is dismissed as ‘ a dame’ and consigned to the gun turret bubble hanging from the plane’s belly. The neanderthals in the crew have no idea Maude’s a battle-hardened ace pilot and the sexism should get the hackles of today’s viewers up. Then it shoots off into the twilight zone as shadowy creatures who might have escaped from a pilot’s tall story begin storming the aircraft and trying to break into Garrett’s perspex turret which increasingly appears in danger of being torn off. But, it seems the male crew are unaware of what’s happening and write her off as a hysterical female. From there, things get even crazier as her mission becomes clearer and people start dying and even Japanese Kamikaze fighter
planes become an ever present threat to eclipse even the skinless creatures ripping at the fuselage. Yes, it’s totally bonkers but a feast of fun from the team behind Fast & Furious, and Moritz throws herself into it with relish.
