County Cup progress for Borough youngsters

-

Peterborough Rugby Club under 15s stayed on course to reach the Cambridgeshire Cup final with a 20-5 home win over Saffron Walden.

Josh Arden, Ben Smith and ‘Sticky’ Wheatley scored a try apiece with Oliver Kirkman adding a conversion and a penalty.

The under 15 girls teamed up with Cambridge to play an unofficial ‘Cambridgeshire versus Norfolk’ match and were on the wrong end of a 24-19 scoreline. Borough players did all of the scoring with Jemima Mitchell, Robyn Thorpe and Abbie Tuson getting the tries while both Lucy Dangerfield and Rose Smith added conversions.

The under 13 girls enjoyed a 30-10 home win over Cambridge only to then lose 15-5 against Melton Mowbray in their three-way fixture.

The Colts suffered a rare defeat in a friendly against Huntingdon after using the match to rotate players before returning to league action this weekend.

Will Manning scored two tries and Max Baker one, with Lawrence Teague adding two conversions, as they went down 33-19.

Both the under 16 and under 13 sides lost at home to Spalding. Jack Eagles scored a brace of tries for the under13s with Eden Hewitt getting the other in a 25-15 loss.

Oundle’s scheduled Midlands Premier Division game at Bridgnorth was a victim of a waterlogged pitch. The bottom club seek a third win of the season at home to Broadstreet this Saturday (2.15pm).

A five-point deduction for conceding a game at leaders Olney and a 31-22 home defeat by St Ives last weekend sent Stamford sliding four places down the Midlands Division Two table to ninth.

Bourne held on to second place in Midlands Division Three with a 39-10 win at home to lowly Northampton Mens Own. They host another struggling side Queens on Saturday.

Spalding were crushed 56-12 at home to Rushden & Higham, hardly ideal preparation for a game at leaders Stockwood Park this Saturday.
