A Taylor-made charge into the quarter finals
Joe Taylor’s hat-trick helped propel Posh into the quarterfinals of the Premier League Under 23 Cup.
The 19 year-old has been in great form for the Posh youngsters this season and he carried it into a last-16 tie against Charlton Athletic at the Weston Homes Stadium as he also claimed two assists in a 6-2 romp. He now has 10 goals in 10 games (8 starts) for the Under 23s.
Posh qualified for the knockout stages after topping a group that included Premier League sides Burnley and Everton was well as Championship big hitters Sheffield United.
First-team star Jack Taylor scored as he tested his recovery from a hamstring injury with a 45-minute workout with Luke Harris and Kellan Hickinson also on target.
On-loan first-teamer Reece Brown also played.
Joe Taylor said: “I felt I should have had more goals,
but I got the hat-trick which is what mattered in the end.
“Overall I was really pleased with my performance. My hold up play was good and I linked up with midfield really well, but also my threat
in behind was decent.
“I was pleased I could contribute in a significant way to the result. It was a great teamperformance.
“I have got quite lucky in front of goal this season and
hopefully I can keep that going for the rest of the season.
“To progress to the last eight of the Premier League Cup is a massive achievement.”
Posh are currently fifth of eight teams in the Northern half of the Professional Development Under 23 League with four wins and seven defeats in 16 games. Their next scheduled fixture is at Barnsley on March 18.
