Will an ‘all-guns blazing approach’ be the way forward for Posh in future?

Posh can be expected to deliver an ‘all guns blazing’ attacking approach for the rest of the season.

There has been criticism of some passive recent performanes - most notably the first 45 minutes of a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Swansea last midweek - but Posh were rewarded for a much more pro-active performance in beating QPR 3-1 at Loftus Road last weekend.

Despite clambering off the foot of the table Posh are still red hot favourites to be relegated with Sky Bet offering odds of 1/50 (bet £50 to win £1) for League One football to be back on the London Road menu next season.

Wing-back Joe Ward was a key man in the win at QPR.

He was fouled inside the area enabling Jonson Clarke-Harris to fire Posh in front from the penalty spot early in the second-half.

“I was buzzing when I won the penalty,” Ward said. “Because I was 100% sure Johnno would score as he’s deadly from the spot. It helped me that I am confident enough to go inside or outside when taking on a defender.

“Weneededtowinthatone. We came out for the secondhalf with all guns blazing and it paid off with a vital three points. This should be the way we play now.

“We looked good going forward and we were really solid at the back so it was a good all-round performance in the second-half. We managed the game really well.

“Our own mistakes killed us a bit in the first half, but we hung on in there and went on to win which is all that really matters.

“It was also important to keep going forward after we’d taken the lead and to keep trying to score so to score another goal so quickly was pleasing.

“We have some time off now, but we will keep working hard and we will keep going. No-one’s giving up.”

Five of the eight remaining Posh games in the Championship are at the Weston Homes Stadium, but they include four against teams chasing promotion. Third placed Luton Town (April 5), sixth-placed Blackburn Rovers (April 15), seventh-placed Middlesbrough (April 2) and ninth-placed Nottingham Forest (April 23) all have to come to London Road as do mid-table Blackpool on the final day of the season (May 7).

Posh also have away games left at mid-table Bristol City (April 9), relegation rivals Barnsley (April 18) and play-off hopefuls Millwall (April 30).

Posh beat QPR three times this season, but in the 1997-98 season under Barry Fry’s management they beat Swansea City four times

Posh beat the Swans twice in Third Division games (3-1, 1-0), as well as in the FA Cup (41) and in the EFL Trophy (1-0).

Three of those games were away from home at the Vetch Field.
