Last-gasp strike from Foad rescues crucial point for City of Peterborou­gh

It was a case of as you were in the National League Division One as City Of Peterborou­gh drew their crucial bottom-ofthe-table clash with Sheffield Hallam on Saturday.

The draw means CoP go into Sunday’s final match of the season against University of Birmingham still bottom of the pile, with third-frombottom Deeside also drawing last weekend, 2-2 at Cambridge.

Desperatel­y needing a win against Hallam, CoP were staring down the barrel of relegation as they fell 1-0 down at the start of the final quarter.

Joe Finding had the chance to equalise four minutes from time, but missed a penalty stroke.

CoP didn’t give up though and with 10 seconds left on the clock up popped Nathan Foad to net the equaliser which means they still have a chance of climbing off the bottom of the table.

Sunday’s final round of matches all start at 2pm, with CoP at University of Birmingham, Sheffield Hallam at home to Cambridge City and Deeside travelling to Bowdon.

The CoP men’s IIs were handsome 7-1 winners against Dereham, with goals coming from Fisher (2), Astbury, Senior, Young, Miles and Patel. The win means the IIs finish the season seventh in the 12-team table.

The IIIs also wrapped up their Division Two NW season with an emphatic victory, hammering Cambridge University IIIs 9-1, a win that sees them finish the campaign as runners-up.

On target were Archie Senior (2), Carl Daniels (2), Vadaro, Grimshaw, Tom Seaton, Connor, and Andy Fletcher.

The IVs were beaten 7-3 by Long Sutton despite two goals from Neil Lake and one from Simon Buckley, while the Vs were also beatenn, 2-1 against Cambridge City Vs, who fielded a strong side.

The goal was scored by Compton. with the Vs finising their campaig in eighth place.

Phil Martin and Ben Hicks netted for the VIs, but they went down 3-2 to St Neots IIs to suffer a fourth straight defeat.

That losing run means they finish the season fourth.

It was a frustratin­g weekend for the CoP Ladies’ first team as their scheduled final East Premier Division match of the season against Harleston Magpies was postponed.

The match wil have to be replayed, but the date has to be confirmed.

The IIs did get their match played, but it ended in a 3-2 Division One North defeat to Bury St Edmunds.Rhianne notched both goals for the IIs, who finish the season in sixth.

Vicky and Sue MaCNaughto­n were on the mark as the Ladies IIIs drew 2-2 with St Neots IIs, while the fourths were edged out 2-1 by Spalding IIIs in their final Division Three NW of the campaign.
