Masons come to aid of charity ball
Peterborough Masons have helped a local charity organise a ball for children and young adults with congenital heart defects.
Little Miracles is a charity that supports families which have children with additional needs, disabilities and lifelimiting conditions.
The children wanted to attend a ball and Michelle King, CEO of the charity, aspired to provide an event coinciding with Congenital Heart Awareness week (February 7-14).
Without a budget and with just three weeks to secure a venue, disco, food and decorations, a plea for assistance was made on social media.
The Peterborough ‘Light Blues’ Club, which is a club for new and young Freemasons in the city, responded with a proposal to arrange and host the ‘Little Miracles Congenital Heart Awareness Week Ball’ at Peterborough Masonic Hall.
The ball was an excellent illustration of how Freemasons can pull together, as they were instrumental in the organisation of all the aspects, including providing the venue, catering, decoration and the entertainment – a disco donated and compered by a local Mason.
One hundred happy guests attended on February 12 and Little Miracles rocked Peterborough Masonic Hall.
Michelle said she was amazed to see what could be achieved in such short timescales.
Peterborough Light Blues assistant secretary Roy Stockbridge said: “The event was only possible following the generosity of the Vale of Nene and Fitzwilliam Lodges along with significant donations received from a select few brethren across the province, plus a donation from the Province too.”
