No question about quiz success!

-

There is no doubt that people love their quizzes. The number of quiz shows on television is testament to that. Over the last two years, things have been tough for all charities and similar organisations. Rotary has struggled through; even those old enough to remember life befo- re the computer and internet have learned to adapt and use Zoom or other mediums.

It has even allowed the Ukrainian President to address the House of Commons!

On a windswept Friday evening it was with great enthusiasm, but also in trepidation, that 24 teams of six were able to assemble at Thorney Lakes Golf Club. Team members hoped all the long hours watching Tipping Point, The Chase and Who Wants to be a Millionaire would pay off.

Those old enough to remember knew that CD stood for 400 in Roman numerals, whilst others were quick to remember that singer Sam Smith and The Spice Girls had three Christmas number

ones. Hopefully we will not be going back to imperial measurement and needing to measure 220 yards in a furlong.

Scoring by four ladies-inwaiting, part of the organising team, was a rushed job.

Eight rounds of quizzing were punctuated with a course of fish and chips, or for the vegetarians a veggie burger, plus liquid refreshments from the bar.

The result for some was irrelevant; more important was the £1,300 that was raised.

Macmillan Support’s local fund-raiser attended and commented how the coronavirus had vastly reduced their income. These have been tough times. It was a pleasure for Rotary to be able to boost funds for this worthy charity, whilst providing an opportunity for people to get together again and have a lot of fun.

Do not think the epidemic has gone away though; even a local doctor recently contracted the virus. Please stay safe rather than be sorry. Take as many precautions as you can.

Finally, a further reminder about a Rotary opportunity to keep fit whilst staying safe in the open-air. Deepings Rotary are holding their Charity Runs on Sunday, May 22, starting from the Rugby Club in Deeping St James. Their 3K fun run starts at 10am with a 10K road race at 11am.
