McCann won’t ring changes for Lions trip

-

Posh boss Grant McCann won’t be using the final two Championship games of the season to experiment with his playing staff.

It was suggested the likes of goalkeeper Will Blackmore, summer signings Joel Randall and Jorge Grant, plus young forward Joe Taylor could start Saturday’s game at Millwall or the final fixture of the season at home to Blackpool on May 7.

But, even though the inevitable relegation from the Championship was confirmed last weekend, McCann is determined to finish the season with momentum.

Posh were unbeaten for four games before Saturday’s narrow loss to Nottingham Forest. Winger Joe Ward faces a late fitness test after missing the Forest game.

"I want to take momentum into the next season,” McCann said. “I want to win the final two games so that’s what we will try and do.”

Current Posh skipper Jonson Clarke-Harris added: “Two games to go and we will see the season out and give our all. Thank you Posh fans for your support this season.”

Millwall still have an outside chance of reaching the Championship play-offs. They are three points adrift with just two games to go. The Lions haven’t lost in their last four matches, but they did lose at Posh in December.

Posh last won at the New

Den in a famous Championship match in February 2013. It finished 5-1 to Posh in the season they went down from the Championship with 54 points – 20 more than they currently have – thanks to goals from Lee Tomlin (2), Tommy Rowe, Nat MendezLaing and George Boyd. Boyd left Posh on loan for Hull after the game.
