Emphatic win in home meet by Masters team
Despite struggling for numbers Peterborough & Nene Valley AC athletes delivered some quality performance in the National Athletics League fixture at Chelmsford on Saturday.
James McCrae showed off his finishing speed when outsprinting the other contenders to win the 1,500m in 3:54.98. Luke Brown placed 4th in the B race in 4:07.10.
Lydia Church was 2nd in the ladies shot with an 11.84m throw, while Sam Eve-Marsh clocked 1:16.66 for 3rd in the ladies 400m Hurdles.
Alex Ingham was 3rd in the triple jump with 11.87m, while Dylan Phillips cleared 1.90m for 3rd spot in the high jump.
Angus Bowling cleared 3.70m for his pole vault 4th place, while Phil Martin clocked 15:30.43 for 4th place in a strong 5000m field.
The competition marked the competitive comeback from men's captain Dave Bush after a serious Achilles injury.
Bush placed 2nd in the B javelin as he and Sean Reidy filled in for the club's regular throwers.
The PANVAC team finished 6th out of seven participating clubs.
Despite an assortment of tight hamstrings and other niggles, Claire Smith's aging army made huge strides towards the finals of the Eastern Masters Athletics League with an emphatic victory for PANVAC in their first match of the season on their home
track.
Two teams go forward from the group to the September finals .
In the ladies competition team captain Claire Smith won the over 35's 100m and 400m, with Alison Dunphy similarly successful in the over 50's sprints. Judith Jagger won the over 60's 400m in 1:28.8. Jagger also won the triple jump, along with the
discus in which she achieved 23.39m.
Elisabeth Sennit-Clough ran 12:13.3 to win the over 35's 3,000m with Nicky Morgan first in the over 50's race.
Distance runner Maggie Skinner impressed in the one mile walk which she one in 9:37.4.
Kay Gibson and Sally Pusey both took maximum points in their hammer age
groups. Pusey also won the over 50 discus while Gibson was first in the B walk.
The men dominated on the track with Sean Reidy winning the over 35's 100m in 12.6, and Dave Brown and Andrew Robson winning their 400m races.
Phil Martin comfortably won the over 35's 5000m with a 9:06.7 clocking. Dave Neal ran 10:52.3 for first place in the over 50's race. Barry Warne was first over 60.
Tim Needham threw 26.89m for his over 60's hammer win, while Simon Achurch took the over 35's discus spoils.
Sean Reidy and Jon Springs won the triple jump competitions with Karl Eve top in the over 50's high jump.
PANVAC scored maximum points in the men's walk courtesy of Tim Clough and Peter Brantom.
Barbara Johnson was first over the line in the 2nd round of the Harrier League at Lynch Wood, in a 1-2-3 for Yaxley Runners.
Johnson clocked 27.11 with Steve Megson 20.29 and Kathryn Hawkeswell 23:26.
Johnson leads the series with two rac es to go.
