Posh brush aside League One weaklings once more

-

Much has been said about Posh failings against the top sides, but not much has been heard about the team’s domination of League One's weaklings.

This comfortable success at the Muzama Stadium means Posh have now won 10 of 11 unbeaten games against teams who sat in the bottom seven at the end of the day’s play.

Form isn’t always that reliable as Manchester City found out last weekend.

Poshwerebyfarandaway the better side against a poor Morecambe team, although they might well have used up a month’s supply of luck in 30 minutes as all three goals were assisted by hapless opponents. Jack Taylor’s on-target 12th-minute strike was taken into the top corner by Morecambe defender Ferrand Rawson’s head, Joe Ward’s 21st-minute free kick slipped straight through goalkeeper Connor Ripley and Kwame Poku’s 29thminute effort was helpfully guided into the net by Jacob Bedeau’s knee.

And once Posh survived some heavy late first-half pressure which included Rawson heading against a post from a corner it all led to a very comfortable second-half.

Set-pieces were the only defensive concern and two in quick succession around the hour mark when Liam Shaw headed wide from an unguarded position six yards from goal and Rawson headed over from a smilar distance should have led to home goals.

Posh probably had plenty in reserve though and started to threaten again late in the contest, and after dashing loanee Nathanael Ogbeta had been given licence to roam in more attacking area.

Ogbeta fluffed a simple pass which would have given Jonson Clarke-Harris a tap-in and was then denied a first Posh goal by a terrific Ripley save after his captain had set him up.

It was a first home defeat in 10 outings for Morecambe. Not every team has been dominant against the division’s worst teams.
