Borough put on a show for ex-players
Peterborough RUFC put on a 41-point show for over 120 ex-players last weekend, but head coach Shane Manning wasn’t completely satisfied.
The former Fengate stars enjoyed the hospitality at a lunch before watching the current 1st XV romp to a seventh Regional East 2 Midlands win in a row, 41-14 over Leighton Buzzard.
Borough lost to these opponents earlier in the season, but made no mistake at Second Drove by running in seven tries.
It was 27-5 at the break, but it was the second-half showing that frustrated Manning ahead of a tough trip to second-placed Lutterworth this Saturday.
"I’m obviously happy to have the win and would take 41-14 most of the time, but we really need to be doing better when controlling the game.
"It's been a common theme this season of going to sleep in the second half and having really poor exits from our own 22 which is unacceptable at this level.
"We practice them and talk about what we need to do, but it seems to be forgotten in the heat of battle.
“We have a really tough game up next and to give ourselves a chance of winning we will have make sure we don't give the opposition the field position they want from our own errors."
Nic Langton (2), Ry
an Morris, Michael Hall and Johnathan Hamilton claimed first-half tries with Miguel Alves and Sam Crooks crossing after the break.
Borough conceded the first try of the game, but a dominant scrum helped ensure a big win which kept them in fifth place.
LIONS
Allen Carr scored all the points for Peterborough Lions in a 36-15 East Midlands 2 defeat at Kettering, Carr crossed for two tries and kicked a penalty and a conversion.
Lions are at Leighton Buzzard on Saturday.
OUNDLE
Oundle’s much-improved season in Midlands Division One continued with a 38-24 home win over Broadstreet.
Tries from Taylor Gourlay,
Vernan Horne, Tom Aviss, Luke Sharpley, Sam Redmond and Grant Snelling secured an entertaining bonus-point win at Occupation Road.
Oundle are eighth heading into Saturday’s match at third-placed Bromsgrove.
