It’s all-out attack
Posh boss Darren Ferguson has concluded attack is the best form of defence for his side in the final 10 games of the season.
A blistering attacking performance in a 5-2 romp at Burton Albion on Tuesday prompted Ferguson’s comment.
And it will be music to the ears of many Posh fans who remember the glory days of Ferguson’s early spells in the London Road hot seat when this team didn’t worry about how many goals conceded as long as they scored more!
“I never felt overly comfortable during the Burton game,” Ferguson admitted. “We have to stop conceding bad goals.
"But there is something about me at this club and we are probably just going to have to outscore teams without worrying about any other stuff.
"We have some dynamic players in forward areas as they showed at Burton. Jonson Clarke Harris was outstanding and he has a lot of pace in and around him.”
Ferguson certainly has some attacking weapons at his disposal.
League One Golden Boot favourite Clarke-Harris now has 21 goals in 36 matches after a double at the Pirelli Stadium, while fellow fowards Ephron Mason-Clark, Joe Ward and Harrison Burrows also scored.
Exciting young talent Kwame
Poku started on the substitutes’ bench and January centre-foward signing Kabongo Tshimanga has yet to be unleashed.
The Burton result was an impresive bounce back from one of the worst performances of the season, a 3-0 home defeat to Cheltenham last weekend.
“The basics of football never change,” Ferguson said. “If you don’t win enough tackles, don’t run enough and don’t win enough headers you will not win football matches.
We were too complacent.
"It’s often how you react that’s important though and we did that very well at Burton.”
Posh midfielder Hector Kyprianou picked up an ankle injury against Cheltenham and missed the game at Burton.
He is expected to miss Saturday’s League One game at Lincoln City.
