We are still giving kids everywhere a great day out after 33 years
The first national Rotary Kids’ Day Out took place 33 years ago in 1990 and since then it has turned into the biggest single outing for disadvantaged children in the UK!
More than 30,000 children participated in the 2019 national Day Out which is run in cooperation with Rotary International in Great Britain and Northern Ireland (RIBI).
The success is credited to over 10,000 Rotarians who volunteered on the day at over 100 venues.
Whether the children live with critical health issues, in refuge centres, those with a disability, and young carers, children across the country are taken on a fun day out to a zoo, a theme park or even the seaside, often for the first time in their lives.
Ryan as a young career looks after his 34-year-old Mum who is a single parent, has multiple sclerosis and type 2 diabetes and gets around in a manual wheelchair.
Only 9 years old, Ryan has had attendance problems at school and was struggling to concentrate and becoming withdrawn into himself.
Ryan is responsible for the shopping, cooking of ready meals, cleaning, laundry and gardening. With money being tight, it is hard to do fun things and have a break.
Ryan went on a Kids’ Day Out and said: “I have never been to a theme park before because
Mum couldn’t take me, it was an amazing day. I enjoyed all the rides, it was so much fun. Thank you to Kids’ Day Out and the local Rotarians for making it possible, it was really cool!”
The Rotary Club of Peterborough Ortons recently held their annual Quiz Night at Ormiston Bushfield Academy in Ortongate.
Approximately 100 Rotarians, friends and families enjoyed a fantastic evening of fun, food (a delicious ploughman’s) and fellowship.
Past President Nick Cottingham was the excellent quizmaster for the evening and the winning team came from the Rotary Club of Peterborough.
The evening raised over £1,250 towards this year’s Kids’ Day Out which will take place on Wednesday, 14 June.
As a result, many local needy children will enjoy a day to remember at the famous Wicksteed Park theme park in Kettering.
