Jonson pipped to League One star player award

-

Jonson Clarke-Harris was surprisingly pipped to the post by Aaron Collins of Bristol Rovers for the EFL League One Player of the Season Award.

The two strikers went head-to-head with Sheffield Wednesday’s Barry Bannan for the gong at the EFL awards ceremony hosted at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Sunday night.

Bannan and Clarke-Harris were thought to be the frontrunners but the judges instead opted for Collins.

The 25-year-old has scored 16 league goals this season and provided 11 assists but the majority of his best form came in the first half of the season. Collins has scored just two in his last 15 matches and his side sit 15th.

Clarke-Harris - the division’s leading scorer with 25 goals - instead had to settle for just a place in the Team of the Season as Posh's only representative.

League One Team of the Season:

Michael Cooper (Plymouth)

Injured since the start of February but kept 11 clean sheets in 29 before then.

Bali Mumba (Plymouth)

The Norwich loanee has shone at wingback and has even scored six times, showing Posh what they missed out on.

Leif Davis (Ipswich)

Probably the best left-sided defender in the division and has 14 assists to his name, the most in the league.

Mads Andersen (Barnsley)

The Barnsley captain at the heart of one of the league’s best defences.

Ricardo Santos (Bolton)

Bolton’s inspirational captain who even found his scoring boots against Posh, where he is not fondly remembered.

Guided his team to EFL Trophy success at Wembley.

Barry Bannan (Sheffield Wednesday)

A class above League One, he has the second most assists (12).

Conor Hourihane (Derby)

Another midfielder stepping down the levels and looking out of place.

Josh Windass (Sheffield Wednesday)

Hasn’t played since the start of March but has 11 goals in 32 games playing in an advanced midfield role.

Conor Chaplin (Ipswich)

The main rival to ClarkeHarris for the Golden Boot, just one behind on 24. Scored against Posh three times this season.

Aaron Collins (Bristol Rovers)

A star in the early days of the campaign but has faded, perhaps David McGoldrick has been hard done by.

Jonson Clarke-Harris (Posh)

An obvious choice as division’s top scorer.

Former Posh loanee and Plymouth wingback Bali Mumba was named Young Player of the Season, with his current boss Steven Schumacher taking home the Manager of the Season prize for masterminding the Pilgrims’

promotion push.

He beat out competition from Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna and Sheffield Wednesday's Darren Moore.

In League Two, former Posh man and Peterboroughborn Stevenage centre-back Carl Piergianni was named in the League Two Team of the Season but former Posh boss Steve Evans missed out on the manager’s award to Richie Wellens of Leyton Orient.
