Rotary running and recycling for change
Running or walking is good for you physically as well as mentally. In our ever increasing obese world, regular exercise helps you lose weight and strengthens your mental wellbeing!
Running is a great option, as it burns more calories than most other types of exercise because it requires many different muscles to work harder together.
The Rotary Club of The Deepings are holding their annual Charity Run on Sunday 21 May at 10 am. The run is open to all ages and there is a 3km
Fun Run and a 10km Road Race, which is licensed by England Athletics, and both runs this year will use chip timing. The run starts and finishes in the playing fields at The Deepings Rugby Club. Entry fee online for the 10km Road Race is £14 if you are an affiliated runner, but £16 if not. You can register your place by contacting Mary Martin on 01778 343927 or by going direct to the Rotary Club of The Deepings website.
It is hoped that the run will attract hundreds of runners and well-wishers, and that a good amount of money will be raised to support the charities that Rotary helps, both locally, national and internationally.
The Rotary Club of Stamford St Martin kindly donated two aluminium can crushing bins to Frank Newbons Community Projects. As a result, three tons of scrap aluminium has provided much-needed funds to buy a new table-tennis table for the gym at Stamford Recreation Ground. The Pride of Stamford litter pickers have been instrumental in recycling the thousands of cans, which have so far raised over £3,000!
The group are also giving Team Stamford £250 to buy flower bulbs.
Organisations have until 7 July to apply online. Winners of the Awards will be announced on 18 August and invited to a reception to celebrate awardees in the autumn.
