Fergie dismisses complacency fears
Posh boss Darren Ferguson insists complacency won’t be an issue for Posh at Hillsborough on Thursday night.
Sheffield Wednesday have been written off by most pundits after a 4-0 drubbing at Posh in the first leg of their play-off semi-final at the Weston Homes Stadium.
According to some Posh just have have to turn up for the second leg to book a Wembley final date for later this month.
But Ferguson certainly isn’t thinking like that.
"There will absolutely be no complacency from us,” said Ferguson. “It’s always a tough game at Hillsborough no matter the circumstances.
"The players delivered a perfect performance in the first leg in terms of what we had worked on, but no two games are the same.
"This match is a completely different prospect. It’s Hillsborough with 30,000 fans inside.
"We need to blank all that out, play the game we want to play and not the game they want to play, and hopefully we can get the crowd frustrated.
"Anyway in that first game there were still times when
we had to defend well which we did.
"We defended set-pieces very well and we might have to be even better in the second leg.
“We’ve delivered two very good performances in a row – arguably the two best in my time back here – and we
will need to reach those levels again.
"We took a bit out of the game up there in March (a 1-0 defeat) when we controlled a lot of the first half.
"We will still have to get the basics and fundamentals right and we have to make sure we show a strong
mentality to get through the inevitable periods when they are on top.
"We’ve shown all season we have enough quality to win games, but that won’t be enough on its own to win this one.”
Sky Sports pundit Jobi McAnuff believes Posh are certainties to reach Wembley.
He said: “At 2-0 down it would be tough for Wednesday, but at 4-0 it’s a huge task because of how good Peterborough are on the counter attack in an open game. I can’t see them not scoring again.”
