Feeding, educating, empowering and developing thousands of children

-

Local Christian family charity Smile International has been feeding and educating thousands of children in Africa, Asia and Europe for more than two decades.

The charity’s acronym for their main projects is; F.E.E.D - Feeding, Educating, Empowering and Developing. Being able to put food on the table and in the mouths of children who are desperately hungry has always been a huge part of Smile’s work.

Over the past year, Smile International has provided 347,310 healthy and nutritious meals in Zimbabwe, Uganda and India. It has been said many times, that a child cannot learn on an empty stomach, and that is why providing a meal encourages children to attend school and get the education that they desperately need, in order to fulfil their God-given potential.

Smile International has provided over 149,850 hours of education for needy children in Africa and Asia over the past year. Smile International also carries out health checks on children, so that their eyesight is good, teeth are good and that they have been immunised properly in order to protect them from the diseases that exist in their poor living conditions.

The charity was established by my wife and myself in the year 2000. And we are so grateful for all those who have supported the work, both prayerfully and practically, over the last 23 years, so that we can put a smile on the faces of thousands of children around the world.

It has been said that the definition of poverty is “the absence of choice.” But through the generous support of individuals, organisations, churches and Rotary clubs throughout the UK, we have been able to turn that around and give the children a choice, many of whom have been fed, grown healthily, fully developing their potential. Some have gone on to university and gained degrees and are now teachers, doctors, laywers, and helping others throughout their community.

Recently the Rotary Club of Peterborough Ortons donated £1,000 for the ongoing work of Smile International, in order that our feeding and education programmes can continue to help many more needy children in the days that lie ahead.
