THE BORDERLANDS: LIMITED EDITION Second Sight, cert 15; Blu

ray/Book/Art Cards £29.99 I’m not sure what makes churches excellent locations for horror films, but mostly they work. Perhaps it’s the sense of closeness to departed souls who once sat on the hard and unforgiving wooden pews, or the cemetery next door as a nudge to mortality, that does the trick..

Whatever it is, director Elliot Goldner managed to bottle it in this spine-chilling 2013 Brit found-footage horror that comes with many of Second Sight’s boxset bells and whistles (70-page book, art cards etc) but surprisingly no

4K UHD version for collectors - but it explains the relatively low price for a quality boxset.

Yes, I know, you’re weary of people stumbling into the unknown and disappearing while, luckily, leaving behind film of their misadventure (I blame The Blair Witch Project!), but this may revive your interest.

It begins with Father Crellick (Luke Neal) from an ancient little Catholic church in Devon, taking video footage of strange happenings, including items mysteriously being moved by apparently supernatural means. This leads to an investigation team of a deacon (Gordon Kennedy - pictured) and a sound engineer (Robin Hill) being parachuted in and getting the faith-challenging fright of their lives when they come up against something much more malevolent than Casper the friendly ghost.

The banter between the devout deacon and the tech geek sees Kennedy and Hill make their characters relatable as they face an increasingly freaky nightmare while goosebumps stealthily creep up your spine.
