The greatest manager in English football history Sir Alex Ferguson is proud of the CV his son is assembling.

Darren Ferguson led Posh to a second EFL Trophy Final win at Wembley last weekend.

He’s also won four promotions with the club and there’s a real possibility he could celebrate a fifth this season.

Ferguson junior has now achieved tangible success in each of his four spells with Posh.

Sir Alex was at Wembley and after the 2-1 win over Wycombe he said: “It's the second time Darren has won here. He’s getting used to it and he’s going to want to come back.

"It wasn’t a great game, but it always had you on the edge of your seat. Peterborough kept promising to win, but they had to wait until the very end to do it. It was really dramatic.

"Darren took advice from me early in his career, but he’s been a manager a long time now and won lots of promotion.

"It’s fantastic. He’s gathered a lot of experience over the years which helps. There have been turbulent times and good times and I’m very proud of him.

"We chat a lot about football in general terms. But we talk rather than me give him advice.”

The Posh boss was naturally delighted with his latest triumph at his club club.

He believes it’s vindication of a change in policy at London Road with priority given to fielding a young team comfortable with an attractive playing style.

His players showed plenty of nerve to claim a winning goal in added time, just two minutes after they’d conceded a late equaliser.

“Winning at Wembley backs up what we were brave

enough to do as a club,” Ferguson insisted. “We evolved and made a hard decision to go really young and I’ve had to stick to it. At times, there’s been disappointments and we’ve had defeats, but we’ve stayed strong and stuck to the plan.

“It was a fantastic day and what a feeling for us all. it’s so good. It’s one of the best, no question. The turnout from the supporters was amazing

and for this young squad to find a way to win after conceding such a late equaliser is credit to them.

“When we scored, I was obviously delighted, but Wycombe never go away as a threat. They sent big forwards on and they equalised.

“At that point, I’m thinking, and I’ve seen it before, you then can concede another one because it’s mayhem so I had to calm them down. I said, just don’t give the ball back to them.

"We got a bit of luck with the winner, but it doesn’t really matter. I was going mad when the ball hit the back of the net.”

The second EFL Trophy win of his career felt so much better than his previous success 10 years ago.

"This one feels different,”

Ferguson added. “It feels better, more satisfying, maybe because of the performance and because it justifies what we did at the start of the season.

“It was more enjoyable today. We weren’t brilliant, but we played the way I wanted us to play. We were brave. Hopefully we can finish the season off and do the double and get another promotion.”
