Hotel’s snub to widower

A man who booked a party at a hotel for his 50th wedding anniversary has been refused the refund of a £700 deposit after cancelling when his wife Joyce died of cancer. Eric Clifton, 78, of Swanmore, Hampshire, was told by the Lysses House Hotel in Fareham it would not refund the upfront payment as the function room had not been re-let.
