Liverpool on move to new training base

-

Premier League club Liverpool have announced plans to move their first-team training base from Melwood to Kirkby.

The Reds’ academy is already based at Kirkby and the club are seeking approval for £50million of work to bring together the senior and junior teams on one site.

The plans also include new and improved football pitches and sports facilities for the area as well as the redevelopment of local infrastructure.

American golfer Pat Perez has come in for plenty of criticism after failing to shout a warning following a wayward tee shot at last weekend’s Genesis Open in Los Angeles, and quite right too.

His drive at the par 4 12th struck the head of an unfortunate spectator. Then, only three holes later, Perez let fly with another drive that battered the leg of a spectator.

Again, there was no warning shout and that simply isn’t good enough.

Action should be taken against golfers who don’t warn spectators when a ball is hurtling in their direction. It is one of my major pet hates and something I really can’t stand as it is such poor etiquette.

I remember being taught at a very early age about the importance of shouting if a ball ended up going offline.

There has become a trend in recent years for some golfers to point in the direction their ball is travelling – but that is really poor as well.

The ball comes off the club at 170mph and can cause carnage.

I just hope golfers aren’t opting against shouting because they hope their ball hits someone and bounces back into play.

When I am working with the youngsters involved with my foundation, it’s a message I hammer home and it’s an issue that needs to be addressed. It shouldn’t take somebody getting injured before something is done. It is not just a problem for the PGA Tour. There are plenty of players on the European Tour who could be better at shouting.

The galleries are getting closer to the fairways and greens to give paying customers better vantage points, and quite right too.

It is great to have people so close to the action, but it also increases the chance of someone being hit by a wonky shot.

Perez has deleted his social media account following the amount of criticism he received and hopefully the next time he hits an errant shot he will do the right thing.
