Colourful display as 200 dragonflies take flight at Castle Fraser
Members of a north-east walking group have produced a stunning display of dragonflies at an Aberdeenshire landmark.
The Grampian 50+ Network asked its members to use whatever materials it liked to create the spectacle which runs from the car park of Castle Fraser to the flight pond.
People came up with all sorts of ideas and used everything from copper, pipe cleaners, beading, knitting, wire and glass to produce more than 200 dragonflies.
The colourful display will now be available for people to view over the next few weeks.
Marjory D’Arcy, the chairwoman of the network, explained how it all came about. She said: “The group was approached by the National Trust after they saw our annual Ramblers Rendezvous event last year.
“We met with the manager Paula Fraser at the Castle Fraser.
“We saw that there were dragonflies at the pond and so we decided to produce a display of them.
“We put it in our newsletter and encouraged people to get involved. We have 67 groups and more than 1500 members from Aberdeen to Moray.
“People used all sorts of materials and they made more than 200 designs which go from the car park to the pond.
The 74-year-old: “I have no idea how long they will be there for, until the rain blows them away I guess.
“They should be there for the next few weeks. If it leads to more people visiting Castle Fraser then it’s win win for everyone.”
