Police issue security alerts

-

Police have warned the public to make their home and vehicle security a priority over the weekend, following a spate of crime in the north-east.

Officers were alerted to the theft of two quad bikes from Boddam, near Peterhead, yesterday morning around 3.30am.

Meanwhile, a silver Land Rover Freelander was stolen from an Elgin property in the early hours of the morning before being found on fire in Aberdeen around 4.30am.

A house in the Foveran area was also entered and keys to a vehicle were stolen.

Inquiries into these incidents are ongoing and anybody with information about them has been urged to contact the police.

Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Walker has also asked the public

to ensure their property and vehicles are locked and that any keys to vehicles are secure at all times.

He has also exhorted the public not to post information about their valuables online.

He said: “In some cases, it is clear that those responsible for thefts are using social media and the Internet to determine what valuables and vehicles are out there, where they are being kept and how easy they might be to steal.

“I would urge you to take extra caution when posting details online about your valuables, in particular if you are advertising them for sale online, and to not post any specific details which could identify where you live.

“The theft of vehicles and other valuables causes a great deal of emotional and financial distress to victims.”
