Sutherland: Elgin have what it takes

-

Reilly and Shane Sutherland, being nominated for player of the year this week.

“It’s still in our own hands because Annan Athletic and Montrose have to play each other.

“We started the season great, then just fell off a bit with a few bad results but we’re still feeling confident. We’ll keep fighting in these last two games and hopefully clinch a play-off place.”

Sutherland arrived at Borough Briggs in February after being released by Caley Thistle following 10 substitute appearances for the Premiership side.

The 20-year-old is glad to be playing regular football under City manager Jim Weir and is keen to extend his stay with the Moray side beyond the summer.

He added: “Hopefully, I will stay. The manager hasn’t spoken to me yet but I would like to stay because the boys are great.

“If we go up it would be great to play in the league above, and if not we’ll hopefully fight to get promotion again.

“I want to stay and help the team do well.

“Being released by Inverness wasn’t the news I wanted but I just relished the new challenge at Elgin. I just wanted to get some first-team games.

“It’s not the end of the world. This is a good standard. It’s probably better than the Development League because there’s a lot of former professionals, a lot of the players have played at the top level.

“There are some good players and it’s really competitive. We’ve got to fight for every point.”
