Fleming makes Balmoor switch
Peterhead manager Jim McInally hopes to bring in at least three new players this week after signing Ayr United goalkeeper Greg Fleming.
McInally is delighted to have landed the 30-yearold, who was voted Championship side Ayr’s player of the year last season.
Fleming, formerly of Oldham Athletic, Chesterfield and Carlisle United, will replace long-serving Graeme Smith, who was released at the end of his contract.
McInally’s side is looking for promotion to League 1 at the first time of asking this season and the Peterhead manager believes Fleming can play a major role.
He said: “We didn’t think we would be able to get that standard of goalkeeper and it was a no-brainer when I discovered he was available.
“At 30, he is relatively young for a goalkeeper and we know he is a very good player.
“I was told that he was one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship and we just got lucky.
“He is a friend of one of our other new signings, Willie Gibson, who brought it to our attention he might be available and it is a very good bit of business.”
McInally expects it to be a busy week of arrivals at Balmoor as he continues to assemble his squad for a League 2 title push.
He added: “I still want to get three or four players in. I have got offers in for some experienced players and in particular, I want to bring in an experienced defender. I go away on holiday at the end of this week so I would like to get my business concluded before I go.”
