Economic savvy required from SNP

Bull artwork also ‘tragically misplaced’

-

SIR, – There is a real lack of economic savvy about this SNP administration.

The business rates fiasco and unequal local funding has raised hackles all around, but the increasing tax inequality from the rest of the UK is a smouldering fire which has yet to burst into flame.

Scotland to be a success has to stimulate people of quality, not only to remain here but for us to be seen as attractive to the very best talent from outside. Never mind the wealthy being put off with higher taxes but now the middle earners are caught in the net. Yes, we appreciate all the well-known benefits emanating from Holyrood but these come with costs and depressing the climate for our wealth producers is exactly the wrong policy for us to be adopting at this time of uncertainty.

Whatever the future holds there is little doubt that a far more sensible attitude should be to trim our costs while reducing the tax burden to make us an attractive location for those who hopefully will make us a fully sustainable economy.

Dr F.L.P. Fouin, North Deeside Road,

Milltimber, Aberdeen SIR, – I have to agree with Dr Don Carney (Letters, November 11) about the wrong place to site the Leopard artwork at Marischal Square.

It is the very same that happened to the Aberdeen Angus Bull at Alford, which should be at the bottom of the hill on a lovely green, grassy, open space just waiting for it.

Such tragic misplacements of two wonderful works of art. Helen Leslie, Woodend Terrace, Aberdeen
