Drumoig golfer Connor Syme secured his European Tour card at qualifying school yesterday – but Aberdeen’s David Law and Oban’s Robert MacIntyre fell agonisingly short.
Syme is one of 33 players to earn a place on the European Tour for the 2018 season after a dramatic sixth and final day at Lumine Golf Club in Spain.
The 22-year-old, who turned professional after this year’s Walker Cup, finished tied ninth on 17-under-par 411 at the Tarragona course.
He said: “It was an amazing day and I’m delighted to earn full status on the European Tour. It’s been a brilliant week, the last few rounds have been awesome. It is amazing to think I was playing Walker Cup two months ago. I’m delighted to have the opportunity now to test myself against the best players in the world.”
But it was disappointment for the three other Scottish representatives, who made the cut at the qualifying school’s final stage, with Law, MacIntyre and Scott Henry all failing to make the top 25 and ties.
Glencruitten member MacIntyre (11 under) finished two shots short in tied 37 th position after a level-par 71, while Law (10 under) was one shot further back after a one-under 70. Glaswegian Henry finished on eight under after a finalround 68.
MacIntyre said: “It is a step in the right direction yet again. I’m delighted to get my Challenge Tour card and can’t wait to see what the next season brings.”
Law said: “It was disappointing to miss out on the top 25 but the positive from the week was securing Challenge Tour rights for next season.” England’s

England’s Sam Horsfield claimed an impressive eight-shot victory after closing with an eight-under 63 to reach 27-under overall.
He said: “All these experiences add upHopefully, I will have the opportunity to one day win on the European Tour or the PGA Tour and I can look back on days like today where I came out here and shot 63 in the final round while having a lead, which is something that you can’t teach and you have to learn by putting yourself in these positions.
“So next time when I have a lead in another tournament I can hopefully reflect on this memory.
Past European Tour winners Kristoffer Broberg, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño and Anders Hansen were among the qualifiers.
