Buckie Thistle manager Graeme Stewart was proud of his players but frustrated that the Highland League champions led twice before being knocked out of the Scottish Cup by a late Brechin City strike.
Stewart said: “I’m disappointed but I’m proud of my players as well.
“I thought that Brechin were there for the taking but I think a bit of fitness showed in the end.
“They looked a bit fitter than us and we looked a wee bit leggy, that was always going to happen as they play in the Championship.
“I felt that at half- time, although we weren’t counting our chickens, I fancied us to get the next goal, but we sort of sat back a wee bit, and that was disappointing.
“Their substitution made a huge difference as he came on and scored two goals. He was quality and I was surprised that he didn’t start the game.”
Stewart felt that the battling performance can kick-start Buckie’s domestic campaign.
He added: “I thought that we were unlucky not to go in at half-time two or maybe even 3-0 up.
“They didn’t create much and they’re goal came from a bit of a deflection.
“We’re not getting the breaks like we did last season, considering the talented players we had in the stand who are unfit.
“If we can take this performance into the Highland League, and get some players back, we will be flying.”
