C or mack ascends North League summit with Nairn win
Gemma Cormack (Inverness Harriers) moved to the top of the North District Cross- Country League women’s division with a fine win at Nairn in the second of this season’s five fixtures.
The former Scotland junior international, who was second behind Great Britain under-20 team member Anna Macfadyen (Forres Harriers) in the opening match at Keith, has now given herself a wonderful opportunity of lifting the title for the first time.
Macfadyen, now a student at Edinburgh University, was an absentee.
Cormack has won North League titles at under-13 level (2004-2005) and in the under-15 age group ( 2005-2006 and 20062007).
She completed the Nairn course in 28min to finish 13sec ahead of Jess Tullie (Forres Harriers), while 17year-old Constance Nankivell (East Sutherland) was first under-20, third overall, in 28:42.
Iona Craft (Moray Road Runners) was fourth in 28:48.
Scotland junior international Grace Whelan (Moray Road Runners) scored another emphatic win in the under-17 girls’ race when completing the course in 16:49, while Megan Keith was second in 17:16 and her Inverness Harriers’ clubmate Emily Andrew was third in 18:09.
Isla Kelly ( Inverness Harriers) maintained her 100% record in the under-15 division, winning in 18:10, while Ellyn Smith (Moray Road Runners) was 10sec behind and Eve Gardner (Inverness Harriers) took third position in 18:32.
Anya Morrison (East Sutherland) achieved an impressive win when clocking 13:32 in the under-13 race to finish 18sec clear of Zoe Sharpe (Inverness Harriers) with Katie Slimon (Highland Hill Runners) third in 14:07.
Kirstin Burnett (Inverness Harriers) made it two wins from two races when leading the way in the under-11s with a time of 7:15. Brooklyn Dunn (Ross County) was second in 7:26 and Katie Meek (Highland Hill Runners) third in 7:38. • Corstorphine AAC club member, Stuart Livingstone, took top spot in the Aviemore parkrun 5km, clocking 16:31 which is the third quickest time from the 29 runs held so far.
Rory Matheson (St Andrews Orienteering Club, Glasgow) was second in 19:22, with Deeside veteran Alan Smith third in 19:47.
Lochaber’s Marie Meldrum was first woman in 20:19. Claire Howie (Cairngorm Runners) was second in 22:52 and Catie Clark third in 23:27.
