Nohiding placefor Aberdeen defence after loss

- BY DANNY LAW

Aberdeen assistant manager Tony Docherty says the Dons defence will be working overtime to rectify the mistakes committed against Motherwell.

The Dons suffered a 2-0 home defeat by the Steelmen, with Louis Moult on target twice for Stephen Robinson’s men, who take on Celtic in Sunday’s Betfred Cup final.

Docherty was disappointed with the ease his side conceded at the weekend and wants a far tighter defensive display when the Dons travel to Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock on Sunday.

He said: “It was uncharacteristic. We pride ourselves on our organisation.

“For whatever reason, it wasn’t there on Saturday.

“We will pick the bones out of that and make sure we work hard in training to eradicate that sort of thing and get back to winning ways.

against Motherwell. We won 1-0 in the previous game against them and we had to take reference from that game. But it just never happened on Saturday. In defence of the players, that doesn’t happen often here. We just never got going.”

Aberdeen were without captain Graeme Shinnie for Saturday’s defeat, with the former Caley Thistle player missing out due to suspension.

The Dons toiled without him as they succumbed to a second league defeat of the season to drop six points behind leaders Celtic.

Docherty added: “Graeme is always going to be a miss. We had a good, honest chat in the dressing room after the game.

“We will never make excuses. We had enough good players to make sure we produced better than we did. Any team would miss Graeme, particularly his drive in midfield. But we aren’t making excuses, we should have done better.”
