Fes­ti­val lights blue touch pa­per for youth tal­ent

A new fes­ti­val cel­e­brat­ing Aberdeen’s cre­ative youth will take place this sum­mer.

The first Light the Blue fes­ti­val will take place over six days start­ing on June 12.

Anna Plas­berg-Hill, Aberdeen Per­form­ing Arts’ drama de­vel­op­ment co­or­di­na­tor, said: “The idea be­hind Light the Blue is to cre­ate an op­por­tu­nity to re­ally cel­e­brate the bril­liant young peo­ple who take part in the youth the­atre and youth mu­sic ac­tiv­ity at Aberdeen Per­form­ing Arts, as well as in­spire new young peo­ple in and around Aberdeen.

“I hope the fes­ti­val will grow and de­velop year on year and be­come an event that young peo­ple in Aberdeen look for­ward to.”

Per­for­mances from lo­cal the­atre and mu­sic groups will be on of­fer as well as work­shops and a panel dis­cus­sion.

Events will take place at Aberdeen’s The Lemon Tree and His Majesty’s The­atre Stu­dio.

The the­atre panel and per­for­mances will also be signed for those with hear­ing im­pair­ments.

Aberdeen Per­form­ing Arts chief ex­ec­u­tive Jane Spiers said: “Light the Blue rep­re­sents the core val­ues of Aberdeen Per­form­ing Arts. There is a huge wealth of young tal­ent lo­cally and we are de­lighted to pro­vide a plat­form for them to de­velop creatively and show­case their work.”
