Festival lights blue touch paper for youth talent
A new festival celebrating Aberdeen’s creative youth will take place this summer.
The first Light the Blue festival will take place over six days starting on June 12.
Anna Plasberg-Hill, Aberdeen Performing Arts’ drama development coordinator, said: “The idea behind Light the Blue is to create an opportunity to really celebrate the brilliant young people who take part in the youth theatre and youth music activity at Aberdeen Performing Arts, as well as inspire new young people in and around Aberdeen.
“I hope the festival will grow and develop year on year and become an event that young people in Aberdeen look forward to.”
Performances from local theatre and music groups will be on offer as well as workshops and a panel discussion.
Events will take place at Aberdeen’s The Lemon Tree and His Majesty’s Theatre Studio.
The theatre panel and performances will also be signed for those with hearing impairments.
Aberdeen Performing Arts chief executive Jane Spiers said: “Light the Blue represents the core values of Aberdeen Performing Arts. There is a huge wealth of young talent locally and we are delighted to provide a platform for them to develop creatively and showcase their work.”
Tickets can be bought via the Aberdeen Performing Arts Box Office in person, online at www.aberdeenperformingarts.com or phone (01224) 641122.
