Oil firms to open doors to students
Secondary school pupils from across the northeast are being encouraged to sign up for the opportunity to delve into the world of energy.
Opito, the global skills body for the energy sector, launched its UKCS Workforce Dynamics Review earlier this month.
The report indicated that 40,000 new recruits will be required to support the industry over the next 20 years.
The organisation’s Industry Awareness programme, which runs from Tuesday June 26 for three days, aims to spark the interest of the next generation.
The initiative will see pupils teamed with employers to gain insight and inspire them
“Exciting opportunities for the next generation”
to consider a career in energy.
Firms taking part include Aker Solutions, EnerMech, EnQuest, Falck Safety Services and the Oil and Gas Technology Centre. Pupils from schools across the region will take part in workshops, office tours and interactive activities. They will also have the opportunity to discuss entry routes with industry professionals.
Opito chief executive John McDonald said: “For young people studying Stem (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects, it provides a unique experience inside some of the biggest and most respected employers in the Aberdeen area. The sector holds exciting opportunities for the next generation such as artificial intelligence, robotics and digital roles, many of which don’t exist today. Providing young people with real life work experience will help them to make more informed choices at a key time in their lives.”
