Air­port run is off to a flyer

Three hun­dred runners have signed up to a unique event at Aberdeen In­ter­na­tional Air­port.

On Satur­day June 30 par­tic­i­pants will com­plete two lengths of a lit run­way, to­talling 3.5km.

The Run­way Run kicks off at mid­night and money raised from the event will go di­rectly to the char­i­ties Be­friend a Child, Sue Ry­der and Veter­ans with Dogs.

Each run­ner signed up for the race has com­mit­ted to rais­ing a min­i­mum of £100 for good causes.

The fundrais­ers can take part in the event as a solo con­tes­tant, or run a to­tal marathon dis­tance as part of a 12-per­son re­lay team.

The cur­rent marathon dis­tance Run­way Run record to beat is 3:04:31, set by a team at Lon­don Heathrow.

Fastest runners and top fundrais­ers will re­ceive prizes in­clud­ing a he­li­copter tour of Aberdeenshire, a night in a lux­ury ho­tel and VIP Lounge ac­cess for a year at the air­port.

Carol Ben­zie, man­ag­ing direc­tor of Aberdeen In­ter­na­tional Air­port said: “We are very ex­cited to host the Run­way Run here at the air­port in col­lab­o­ra­tion with CHC He­li­copter.
