‘AI offers a net gain in jobs – if we grab the opportunities’

- BY RICHARD SCOTT

The findings of the PwC study reinforce what we have been actively pursuing with our adoption of AI across our global locations. Smart technologies based on AI can massively speed up routine legal work and procedures, which not only introduces savings for the client but frees up lawyers who can focus their attention on more challenging issues.

It is encouraging the report predicts a net increase of 15,000 jobs in Scotland over the next 19 years and it is vital that the Scottish business community fully engages in supporting the development of robotics and AI. Otherwise, we risk falling behind in this emerging sector, with the potential that the positive increase in employment opportunities is lost and becomes a negative factor.

The oil and gas industry has been at the centre of many ground-breaking innovations. On our doorstep in Aberdeen we have some exciting work progressing with the TechX Pioneer programme under the auspices of the Oil & Gas Technology Centre.

The TechX incubator will support more than 100 new oil and gas technology start-ups in the next ten years and many of these businesses will be affected by AI. As legal mentors to the Pioneer programme, we look forward to supporting the new wave of North Sea entrepreneurs as they bring to market products and technologies bolstering hydrocarbon exploration and production.
