Blazing car scorches part of A96

-

Some minor repairs will be carried out on a patch of the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road after a car caught ablaze and its charred debris burned into the surface.

The silver Vauxhall Astra caught fire at the Broomhill roundabout near Kintore on Wednesday afternoon.

A stretch of the trunk route was closed for more than two hours as engineers arrived to inspect the damage caused to the scorched carriageway.

Bear Scotland yesterday carried out a further inspection and confirmed that remedial work would be required over the coming weeks.

A spokeswoman said: “The inspection revealed some minor damage to the road surface. Works are therefore being programmed in order to repair the damaged area.”

The repairs have not been deemed as urgently required.

The driver of the Vauxhall managed to escape his car before the fire tore through it after being alerted to what was happening by a fellow motorist, and was not injured.
