New unit will ‘change lives’

-

One patient said the new centre will transform people’s lives.

Angus Simpson, from Portlethen, has been getting dialysis for four years to treat kidney failure.

Until now the 63-year-old needed to travel to ARI for treatment.

Mr Simpson said the new facility will be a huge boost.

He said: “You’re going all that way and then when you get there you’ve got the long corridors and it’s an older unit, it’s not easy.

“This one is much more cheerful, it’s airy, it’s got everything going for it.

“Getting treatment is like running a marathon, I have to go to my bed for a couple of hours after it.

“It’s very tiring and debilitating and I’m there for five hours. This is only 10 minutes away which means I will probably be able to drive where just now I get a taxi.”
