Tributes as biker killed in accident now named
Tragedy: Family thanks doctor who treated man at roadside and police
A biker who died following an accident in Aberdeenshire has been named as Andrew Murray from Fife.
Known as Andy, the 53-year-old from Methil was killed after crashing earlier this month.
He had been enjoying a ride on his Suzuki motorcycle on the A93 between Glenshee and Braemar when tragedy struck at around 1.45pm on Friday July 13.
The Fife Council electrician was well-known in the biker community.
His family have paid tribute to him.
In a statement they said: “Andy was an electrician with Fife Council and a keen motorcyclist. He was active in charity work with the local biker community and was known to his biker friends as the Silver Fox.
“He was well-liked and will be sorely missed by everyone, especially his mother, sister and brother.
“They would like to thank his friends, the passing doctor who stopped to give assistance, the police officers and emergency services who attended at the scene.”
Mr Murray’s death came less than a fortnight after a 65-year-old woman died on the same stretch of road near Spittal of Glenshee.
She had been a passenger on a BMW bike when it was in collision with a Triumph bike five miles south of Braemar.
Mr Murray was believed to have been travelling to the Tomintoul Motorcycle Gathering at the time of his crash.
The charity weekend has custom bike shows and live music along with family entertainment.
A spokesperson for the gathering said in an online tribute: “Andy was on his way to TMG 2018 when the accident happened.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
