An Aberdeen-born musician is making waves in the music industry after the release of a successful EP.

Scott Wallace, 20, first became interested in music after listening to American songwriter John Mayer’s live album.

At 13 years of age he decided to learn the guitar and as his skills and interest in music grew, he started to perform live and then record his own material.

Raised in the west end of Aberdeen, Mr Wallace has since been involved in the city’s music scene.

He said: “I performed at my release show on the 6th of October last year and around 130 people showed up. It was an unbelievable experience to play to so many people who came to see me perform. It’s definitely the kind of show that I’d like to experience again in the future.”

Later that month the young singer released his first set of studio recordings in the form of an EP called Here Goes Nothing.

The lead track Will You Mean It? went on to be awarded single of the week on BBC Radio Scotland with presenter Janice Forsyth describing it as “catchy”.

Since then, Mr Wallace has performed in venues across Scotland, and made appearances at Aberdeen’s AECC and Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s venue.

He also recently supported Sea Atlas, a band from the Outer Hebrides, on their nationwide tour.

The 20-year-old writes all his own songs and produces a mixture of contemporary pop and blues.

He said: “For me it really helps to write. It makes me feel better if I’ve summarised a situation in my life and tried to make something good come from that situation – even if it may have been a bad one.

“There are so many people who want to be in the industry but just don’t know how to go about doing it.

“You just need to put what you’ve written out there when it’s ready, because there’s no better feeling than someone saying that they can relate to something that you’ve said in your song or just having one person say that they like your music.

“It’s important to remember that you won’t win them all, what’s important is that you have a couple of people that are just really behind you and what you’re doing. Some would say that if you can achieve that then you’ve made it.”

Mr Wallace has new material in the works, but with no release date set in stone just yet. He also hopes to record his acoustic tracks again accompanied by a live band.
