Title tips get braced for it

-

Aberdeen Grammar FPs and Inverurie, two of the five contenders for the Aberdeenshire Cricket Association Grade 1 title, both have testing doubleheaders this weekend, with both facing semi-final ties in the Aberdeenshire Cup.

Grammar, the defending Grade 1 champions, must first ensure they keep their title challenge on track against Academy at Duthie Park tomorrow before enjoying home advantage in the cup against Mannofield.

Grammar captain Rob Sweirgon said: “This is a big weekend for us. While the league has to be our main focus, a place in the cup final would be fine. First, we have to get past a very good Mannofield side.”

Inverurie face a trip to Allan Park where they meet Cults on league business and then have an early opportunity to avenge last week’s heavy defeat by Stoneywood-Dyce in the league when the two meet again at Kellands Park in the Aberdeenshire Cup.

Bon Accord, the leaders in the top flight, face Mannofield at the Links.

The most intriguing game of the weekend is at Groats Road where Knight Riders and Crescent meet. With both sides still in the Grade 1 title race, losing is not an option, making for a very tense afternoon.
