Newtonmore defender will now have to tread carefully

-

Newtonmore comeback man Steve Macdonald will miss tomorrow’s Premiership game with Skye at Portree and the Camanachd Cup semi-final against Kilmallie at An Aird the following week.

The powerful defender, who has made a successful return after missing the first two months of the season through illness, has picked up a two-game suspension for crossing the disciplinary points limit.

Macdonald missed last autumn’s Camanachd Cup triumph through suspension and will now require to curb his enthusiasm in case of a repeat.

Teenage forward Iain Robinson returned from holiday last night but David Maclean is a couple of weeks from recovering from ligament trouble.

Victory will take Newtonmore two points clear at the top, while Skye, in need of points at the other end of the table, wait to see if attacker Jordan Murchison can pass a fitness test.

Bottom side Glen Urquhart lose top scorer James MacPherson through a one-game suspension for their clash with Lochaber at Spean Bridge.

The home side has Barry Macdonald back from a two-game ban but will be without Ryan Johnston through a one game suspension. With Ben Delaney having made his first appearance of the season last week, Lochaber know victory will put them six points clear of the Drumnadrochit men. Glen have been playing decently, with Fraser Heath among the goals, and a win here would raise their survival hopes.

Caberfeidh, a point ahead of Lochaber from a game less, play host to Kingussie who needed a replay to account for them in the Camanachd Cup.

Cabers boss Jodi Gorski said: “Defender Scott MacLachlan broke his toe last week and that could be him out for the season.

“But we have Jamie Ma the son, Colin Maclennan and Graham MacGregor all back.”

In the National Division, table-toppers and new Balliemore Cup holders Kilmallie are at home to Inveraray, who have to win to stay in promotion contention.

Second-top Fort William look too strong for Strathglass at An Aird, while Glasgow Mid Argyll, three points behind Fort but with a game in hand, play host to Inverness.
