Bollan: Blue Brazil were worthy of win

-

Gary Bollan insists his Cowdenbeath side will enjoy the occasion of a trip to Tynecastle tomorrow night.

With two wins from their three group games, the Blue Brazil still have a chance of qualifying from their Betfred Cup group, something which could be thrown wide open by Hearts’ appearance at an SPFL tribunal today.

They emerged victorious against Cove Rangers on Saturday, courtesy of David Cox’s goal four minutes from time, adding to their 2-0 win against Raith Rovers seven days previous.

Bollan argues that they face their toughest test tomorrow but they will go the capital and give a good account of themselves. He said: “It’s a strong group and we’re still in competition — but we’ve still got our hardest game ahead tomorrow night.

“We’ll go there and whatever happens we’ll make sure the players enjoy the occasion.

“It’s going to be a difficult task but we’ll see what happens. Our bread and butter is in two weeks’ time away to Clyde.

“But we’ll go to Tynecastle, enjoy the occasion and if we get a result then great.

“You want to progress as far as you can in the cups.

“If we don’t manage to qualify, we’ve had a good start to the season in the section and we look forward to the league campaign ahead. The results have gone well but at this stage the performances are more important.

“You can see on the pitch things are coming together. I felt we were more comfortable than the result suggests — we had some good play and defended well throughout. We were worthy of the victory.”

The Central Park side moved level on points with Inverness at the top of Group C, with Hearts taking a bonus-point win over Raith to move into third on five points. That could change this afternoon as the Jambos will learn the outcome of fielding Andrew Irving as an ineligible player in their 2-1 win over Cove last week.
