Mackintosh says title should be More’s for the taking

-

Newtonmore have now won 10 games on the spin and manager Paul John Mackintosh admits his team is in the driving seat to regain the Marine Harvest Premiership title.

Their 5-1 win over Skye at Portree takes them two points clear with seven games remaining, though Kinlochshiel have a game in hand.

Since losing to Kinlochshiel in the Macaulay Cup in May, Newtonmore have scored 41 goals in their winning spree.

Mackintosh said: “We’re in control and going well and it’s up to ourselves now.

“We still have hard games against Kinlochshiel,Kingussie, Kyles and Oban but we’re reeling off the results.

“Michael Russell played centre forward, as part of a policy of shifting players about, and he scored two goals.”

Glen Mackintosh, Evan Menzies and Ewen Fraser helped the visitors to a 5-0 interval lead with John Gillies netting late for Skye who slip six points from safety in the relegation struggle.

A last minute strike from Stuart Callison, his second of the game, gave Lochaber a 2-1 win over Glen Urquhart at Spean Bridge which also leaves Glen six points adrift.

Eddie Tembo gave Glen an early lead but Callison soon levelled and improving Lochaber now have a strong chance of staying up.

Caberfeidh’s 3-3 home draw with Kingussie was also a vital point for the Strathpeffer side, which is level with Lochaber.

Kings, who netted through Rob MacGregor, Roddy Young and Alex Michie, led 3-2 with four minutes remaining but Colin Maclennan levelled for the Castle Leod men after Craig Morrison’s earlier double.
