Man, 33, ‘utterly ashamed of attack’

- BY CHRIS JAFFRAY

An offshore worker has been fined £300 for head-butting a policeman.

Officers were called to Windmill Brae at about 10.15pm on Sunday following reports of a disturbance between a man and a woman.

When they arrived, they approached Kris Cruickshank who refused to answer any of their questions.

Police believed he was under the influence of drugs due to his remarks and they decided to search him.

However, the 33year-old reacted badly to this decision and head-butted police constable Andrew Howls.

Cruickshank, of Drum Cottage in Meikle Wartle, was taken to Kittybrewster and admitted the assault during an appearance at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Defence agent Andrew Ormiston said that his client was not a drug user and was “utterly ashamed of himself for bringing himself before the court”.

Sheriff Robert McDonald said: “I am prepared to deal with this matter by way of a financial penalty.”
