Brexit is leaving Scots in limbo
SIR, – The “canny Scot” is an image from the past that still seems relevant today.
Both with the independence and Brexit referendums the majority here plumped for the kent rather than some vague utopia. It is said that those with the least to lose are the ones to follow their heart and vote for change, when in truth they are the ones most likely to suffer if things go wrong.
At least in Scotland we debated fully the case for severing our UK links, while with Brexit the case was so multi-dimensional and the outcomes so uncertain that it is little wonder we find ourselves now in limbo.
In other countries in similar situations they have changed their minds – rather than political manipulation, it was surely just making those nations face the true implications of their earlier decisions.
Brexit is increasingly proving a disaster and the sooner we call for a second referendum, driven this time by some honesty, the sooner we are likely to surface from this nightmare.
