Climate change is nothing new

SIR, – How refreshing it was to read the letter from Geoff Moore in today’s P&J (Letters, July 18) regarding climate change.

I wholeheartedly agree with him that this has of course been going on throughout Earth’s history and is nothing new at all. Evidence suggests that since the Earth cooled enough to form the land masses and seas we are familiar with, changing climate is due in a large part to continental drift and ocean currents driving weather systems.

It surprises me that more people don’t seem to be aware of this. Perhaps as a society we should learn to live with what is simply a natural climate change cycle, rather than trying to stop it, which is clearly an impossible task.
