Ex-pilot to take top job at Flybe

Regional airline Flybe Group said yesterday it had appointed Sir Timothy Anderson to its executive team as chief operating officer.

Sir Timothy will become a Flybe employee on August 1 and starts his new role on October 15.

He has been a nonexecuti­ve director of the firm since May 2014 and chaired the group’s safety and security committee during that time.

A fighter pilot by profession, decorated for leadership and gallantry in combat operations, Sir Timothy rose to be assistant chief of air staff in the Ministry of Defence, responsibl­e for RAF strategy.

He previously held senior command and executive defence roles, including responsibi­lity for the largest Tornado fighter base in Nato, and was entrusted to create and lead the UK’s Military Aviation Authority, overseeing the regulation, training and licensing of military aviation and related commercial sector activities.

Luke Farajallah, Flybe’s current COO, steps down on October 31.
