Woman admits having knife at police station

A woman has admitted being in possession of a knife at a north-east police station.

Emma Jayne Barron appeared at Peterhead Sheriff Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to carrying the blade at Fraserburgh police station on November 23 last year.

The 39-year-old pleaded guilty to having an article with a blade or point in a public place without reasonable excuse.

A lock knife was found in her jacket pocket as she was about to be transferred into a security van ahead of an appearance at court on another matter.

Barron, whose address was given in court papers as Hillview Crescent, Rosehearty, was on bail at the time of the offence.

On Tuesday, depute fiscal Kelly Mitchell told the court Barron was searched at the Finlayson Street police base.

She said: “On November 23, she had a knife on her while on bail. The accused was due to be released by G4S for a court appearance when she was searched.

“It was during this time a knife was found in a jacket pocket.”

Defence agent Marianna Milligan stated Barron was carrying a blade because she does a lot of home improvement work.

She added Barron did not know the lock knife was in her pocket.

Mrs Milligan said: “She does a lot of DIY, like laying carpets and generally helping people.

“She was not aware of having it in her possession at the time.”

Sheriff Christine McCrossan deferred sentence until next month.

Barron will return to the dock on August 24.
