Brown glad he can focus on football once more

Peterhead: Dee game is defender’ s priority with brother now on mend

- BY JAMIE DURENT

Peterhead defender Jason Brown is hoping a frightening couple of weeks for his family can be put behind them when his brother Jordon returns to action.

Jordon sustained a head injury in a collision with Aberdeen defender Andrew Considine during Cove Rangers’ friendly against the Dons, receiving treatment for 30 minutes on the pitch before being taken to hospital.

Both parents and Jason were in attendance at the game and the Peterhead defender admits it was hard for the family to stay composed in such a stressful situation.

Jordon was discharged from hospital later that Sunday evening after his scans came back clear.

Jason hopes his elder brother can get a muchneeded dose of luck as both prepare for big seasons at their respective clubs.

He said: “I don’t think we stayed very calm — we didn’t really know what was going on and didn’t want to say too much at the wrong time.

“We were just trying to concentrate on Jordon. The medics were fantastic, we can’t thank them enough. They were brilliant with us and kept us informed.

“It was a bad situation but things moved quicker than we thought.

“Jordon came round in the hospital and was feeling better — but with a head injury he had to take it slowly.

“They did the scans they needed to do and were happy to let him come home and get a comfortable night’s sleep, rather than staying in hospital.

“He’s been back to his GP for tests and they have been monitoring him.

“It was a big scare for the whole family. We’re delighted he’s back on track and we can both concentrate on our football now.

“My mum and dad were at the game and we had to be strong for those 25-30 minutes after the incident.

“It’s something I never want to go through again and I’m delighted he’s back on the road to recovery.”

Brown played just two days later in Peterhead’s 3-0 defeat to Dunfermline and should start again tonight in their Betfred Cup tie with Dundee.

For his elder sibling, who was a Blue Toon player up until the summer, he will have to wait a little longer before returning to the field but Brown hopes it can be a memorable season for both.

He added: “Jordon doesn’t want to be sidelined for too long and would be back this week if he could. But you have to be cautious and he’s slowly building back up.

“He’s raring to go at his new club and is dying to be involved. After what he’s been through, hopefully he can get back on the pitch as soon as possible and get some luck.

“Hopefully we can both have good seasons — promotion is the aim for both clubs and we both hope to be celebrating at the end of the season.” Cove Rangers’ hopes of retaining their title have been boosted by the arrival of Nairn County’s teenage striker Jordan MacRae on a three-year deal.

The 19-year-old scored 25 goals for County last season.

Cove manager John Sheran said: “This is a major signing for us.

“We have been very impressed with Jordan over the last couple of years. We tried to get him in January but we didn’t manage so we’re just delighted we’ve managed to get him now.

“He brings a bit of pace, power and an ability to score goals so we are looking forward to trying to make him a better player playing

alongside our guys. He’s certainly improved under the guidance of Nairn County manager Ronnie Sharp and his staff at Station Park. He is still only 19 and he now has an opportunity to kick on again.

“We see Jordan fitting in well with the rest of the lads at the club, and I have no doubt that he can add to the quality of the squad.”

MacRae said: “I’m happy with the move. It’s a new challenge and hopefully we can progress and win things.

“When Cove tried to sign me last winter I didn’t think the time was right to leave Nairn. I was having a good season and I didn’t want to disrupt that in any way so I stuck by County.

“But when the chance came to join Cove this time I felt I had to jump at it. I live in Ardersier but I will go over to Aberdeen once a week for training. It’s something which has to be done for the chance to join the champions.”
