Women critical of larger iPhones

The Press and Journal (Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire) - - NEWS -

Feminists have criticised Apple for its focus on larger iPhones which, they say, do not fit women’s hands.

The smartphone giant released three new handsets this week, while discontinuing the iPhone SE, its last device with a four-inch display.

Caroline Criado Perez, a female rights and equality activist, said: “So to be clear: Apple has once again failed to update the only phone it makes that fits the average woman’s handsize,” she said.“What is wrong with you, Apple? Women. Buy. Smartphones.”

Among Apple’s new handsets is the iPhone XS Max, which has a 6.5-inch display – the firm’s biggest on a smartphone to date. Sophie Walker, leader of the Women’s Equality Party, said women’s needs will remain an afterthought at Apple until they are better represented at senior level. Apple has not yet responded to calls for comment.
